This aircraft was left in Afghanistan during the epic disaster of an evacuation in 2021. It started out as a new aircraft in the Sikorsky factory. I was in the 82nd Abn Division, 1/17th Abn Air Cavalry, C-Trp, Lift platoon. I was a Huey Crew Chief At the time. We had seven crews and a few extra pilots and crew chiefs. We were flown to the Sikorsky factory by civilian flight in late 1980. We were given a special factory patch and a tour of the factory and the test flight area. We picked up seven brand new UH-60A Black Hawks. Numerically ordered from tail #'s 23440-23447. (mine) We flew them down the Hudson river and circled the Statue of Liberty and on to Fort Bragg. We hit the coast to fly that route. Around the coast of New Jersey, my A/C lit up chip lights and warning sounds. We landed normally at Cape May Airport. The factory tech arrived on scene in less than 30 minutes. We pulled the Chip detectors and cleaned them. We test flew the Aircraft and It was written ok by the maintenance techs. I put close to 600 flight hours on it, training engine failures and auto rotations sling loads troop movements and pilot training in general. My job was to keep the aircraft from falling out of the sky. It was the go-to bird of C-Trp. And It wound up in the hands of terrorists. Two of the fleet were converted to civilian Aircraft and No record of the other Aircraft can be found without filing a FOIA request to the correct agencies. I found closure with mine.
