Hi everyone,
I love this site because I believe it is a true enthusiasts site You don't have to be a professional photographer, have a kings ransom worth of equipment or a degree on photography to have images uploaded.
After my next outing to the airport, my uploads to this site should pass 300, and from comments I have received, and requests to use some of my shots, it would appear that they are reasonably acceptable, but only a few have passed screening on other sites.
I joined a local camera club to help improve my technique, and when I discussed the acceptance criteria for other sites with some of the senior members with competition winning photos, they laughed. Some of the requirements breach basic photography rules. For example, the 'centre' rule contradicts the photograhic 'rule of thirds', and the 'dead air' rule is contrary to the photography rule that a plane should have space to fly into, rather than crashing into the image frame.
Sure, the photographer needs to exercise some discretion with what they upload, and perform some post processing to correct obvious errors such as unlevel horizon, etc. But provided it is a reasonable photo and relevant to aviation, it will be accepted.
By the way, for what it's worth, I am an Aussie in my mid 60's and a former private pilot.
I would like to see other members reasons for liking this site.
Regards,
Peter.
