Well, I suggested Chris move his photo but he's not convinced that 5725 is correct. We did confirm, as I suspected, that he got the ID from me. I got the ID from Andy Marden's book. However, when I went to mark my photo yesterday with 5725, I discovered that in 2003 when I took the photo I had marked 5725 on the photo and had lined through it with 01368 after reading Mardin's book. Bob Ogden's book shows 01368 as being a false mark, but he does not give a correct number.
I can only guess that I got 5725 from the museum in 2003 when I took the photo, because that is where I usually get my numbers - from where I shoot them. And except for Chris' photo, all photos on the 'net that I found showed 5725 or a couple with 0951, which is definitely a false mark belonging to the original XOS2U-1. I think the one link explaining the history, including restoration, is trustworthy due to the explanation on that page. The fact that the plane came from Mexico is verified by Ogden.
I'm hesitant to have Chris' photo moved if he thinks it belongs there. I am waiting word back from the Battleship Alabama Museum for verification.
