Aircraft N150D

My brother saw this airplane at a recent air show and we have strong reason to believe that my father could have flown this airplane in 1942-3. Does anyone out there have a source to look up serial numbers. Also, can you tell me what the "N" number is used for?

Thanks for the information. Can you help me out with the first line. The plane went to the USAAF on June 23, 1942. But, apparently it was operated by Pan Am by July 2, 1942. Does this mean it was flown by Pan Am Crews for non-combat military purposes? For example ferrying equipment or personnel. If Pan Am had control of the plane following July 2 1942, then I suppose my father would not have flown it.

That is what could have happened, they could have been under contract to fly personnel & supplies

Thanks again for your reply. I'll have to go through our papers at home to see if Pop left behind any log books from his North Africa tour. That would probably be our last source.
