Martin announced in November 1945 development of a new design twin engine airliner with 36/40 seats designated Martin-Liner 2-0-2. The prototype first flew on 22 November 1946 and it gained CAA certification in August 1947.
The Glenn L. Martin Company also announced further versions of the 2-0-2 denoted Martin 3-0-3 for passengers and Martin 3-0-4 for freighter cargo, but these were never built or certificated.
As unpressurized piston-powered designs, the 2-0-2 and 4-0-4 were eclipsed by new generation turboprop airliners.
