Aircraft N6255

Have a small problem with both the s/n - Con number for this a/c as well as a previous registration so would be interested to know what is the real story from the US

We have a North American T-28B Trojan registerd here in Australia since 19/07/2012 as VH-RNT the s/n quoted is 138340 which as far as I am aware is actually the a/c's Navy Bu number, It is my understanding that the correct s/n should be 200-411. I also have a ex N number 5524L for this a/c which does not show on the FAA's web site so so one can assume this Mark is very very old

The correct c/n is indeed 200-411, and the BuNo is 138340. Too often when civilians purchase military aircraft and register them with the FAA, they use the military s/n instead of the c/n for registration.

This aircraft shows as still being registered in the USA as N6255

N6255 was previously registered as N5524L using it's BuNo (138340) as the FAA serial.

N5524L was registered to H.S. Roberts Jr. Grants Pass Oregon (circa 1993)

Its U.S. registration N6255 was cancelled on 11 July 2012; reason - Exported to Australia.

A-D database seems not to have captured that at last update.

I have been finding the same problem of an N number not found in the A-D database and being asked whether I want to enter it. Checking the FAA database finds the aircraft in registry from some prior time which then allows me to enter it in A-D. I thought the A-D database was automatically updated every working day same as claims the FAA to be. This has happened at least twice recently during my attempted uploads.
