Malcolm,
I also hope so!
I think the problem arises because, when for USA registered aircraft, in entering the N number of an aircraft photo, the correct N number does not always come up, or no number comes up, or a full field of similar N numbers starting with the lowest of a numeric series comes up, despite waiting and that choice panel then does not change. Therefore, the system may place a photo perhaps other than where the uploader wishes, to another make, model also at one time having the identical number.
Those all to frequent error possibilities were what I was trying to prevent. I frequently check the aircraft profile page first before uploading to catch just such error possibilities. Others of my incorrectly placed photos I find years later, and then with the newer additions to the site, can move the photo to the correct airframe.
As to destroyed airframes with cancelled registrations, the FAA has far more complete registration files going farther back than does the A-D site, and the site can only be as accurate as the true registrar, who unfortunately makes many mistakes as supplied by subsequent owners of an aircraft. The FAA only seems to catch the obvious, and doesn't encourage changes for accuracy. My friend with a 1939-built production aircraft that is registered as a 1952 aircraft found the FAA discouraged a change for accuracy, and it costs the submitter to have the change made with proper documentation often now unavailable, or suspect by them. Hence, the phrase "You don't want to go there" emanates from the FAA.
