This huge aviation event is soon coming up-July 28-August 3, 2008. The RedStar Pilot's Association is planning to mark the 50th anniversary of production of the Nanchang China CJ-6 with a 50 plane formation of aircraft during the warbird portion of the daily air shows to commemorate the half-century since first flight of the Chinese military trainer.
A group of Nanchang CJ-6s from the Southwestern United States is planning to attend this event. I'll be going in a six place Bonanza with some seats removed to help haul the baggage of the CJ-6 group. The SZP Nanchangs are going, and I was fortunate to catch a ride in one a couple weeks ago where we did a roll, not as fast as a Pitts, but equally fun! The local CJ-6As scored at the top at the Porterville Formation Flying School back in June.
The CJ-6 was the first indigenous Chinese aircraft design and 2,200 aircraft later, is remarkably still in production. There are more than 200 registered in the USA, making those wonderful radial engine sounds.
Who else will be attending Oshkosh this year? See you there? It will be a great photo event.
