N7471D, a modified 1957 Piper PA-18A-150 Super Cub operated uncowled lost power at 2,000-foot altitude while banner towing near California's Ventura Freeway 101 and Adolpho road in Camarillo on 10 July 2008. An emergency landing was attempted after jettisoning the advertising banner and the plane flipped over in an industrial park after it hit a mound of dirt while landing. The 28 year old pilot was unscathed. No fire resulted and the plane appeared whole, but upside down. The plane is registered to Van Wagner Aerial Media of Hollywood, Florida.
I photographed N7174D recently before the accident at Santa Paula airport SZP. See my photos of this workhorse here, right-side up.
