Recently a seaplane crashed a Lake Hood near Anchorage. The event was captured via Tower to Aircraft radio.

A Cessna 185 floatplane, N1758R, crashed just after take-off. No one hurt, but the Tower missed the blocked emergency call (someone doubled with him) as well as the actual impact. Note the audio at about 2.5 min - that is the aircraft with 'stuck mike hitting the water, along with the pilots comment about his dog. The pilot had is Dog aboard which was not injured either.

This file is 19 minutes long. But is very interesting. The ATC guy , to me, was totally inattentive since it took him nearly 13 minutes to figure out he had lost an aircraft. The crash itself was very readable. I heard it, and understood what was going on. The ATC dude was, well, otherwise occupied. It is after all, the most stressful occupation!

The local paper stated that the engine failed just after takeoff. And the pilot tried to turn around to get back on the water and in his maneuver to miss a hotel building he cracked it up on a beach.

The ATC guy is clueless.

You can hear him "Double" with someone saying "Emergency". That was simply bad timing, but the rest. Oh My!

Listen to the ATC well after the incident. He walks all over pilots, then gets angry with them thinking they are the negligent ones. Then he starts saying "Who is that aircraft not moving" etc. etc..Then he starts to figure out he has a a/c down and you can tell he is totally stressing!
