I just took the plunge and bought my first DSLR. I got a Canon T6 with a 18-55 lens and a 75-300 lens open box for less than $300. I know it’s far from the best but I’m just wanting to do some aviation photography as a hobby. Does anyone know where some good resources are for aviation photography before I head out to the airport for the first time? Any tips? Thanks guys!
Resources for aviation photography?
Most of my aviation photography skills were self taught by using on-line resources, hints and tip from here or there.
Talking to a few other like minded folks at the airport and airshows helped fill in the gaps.
The good thing about digital is that it allows you to make mistakes without the cost of film.
Quick tips
I'm by no means pro-level at it..but my photos are much better now than when I started.
I shoot jets mostly with Canon's Program mode. Center focus, the lowest ISO that works with the light available.
Props I shoot in shutter priority mode. pan well and keep my shutter speeds below 1/250 for prop blur....depending on the engine and rpm ( take off or landing) etc.
Here's my Flicker page.... that's about my best...

same answers Ztex gave, nothing bothers me more than seeing dead props because someone was shooting at 1/1000 SS because they wanted a crisp shot.
Keep the sun at your back, I shoot Shutter Priority for jets around 1/800 and ISO at 1/100-250 depending on sunlight
1/250 or lower for props, I throw a bunch out because my hands aren't as steady as they used to be. Attached pic was shot 1/200, f/11 and ISO 100.
