Most of my aviation photography skills were self taught by using on-line resources, hints and tip from here or there.
Talking to a few other like minded folks at the airport and airshows helped fill in the gaps.
The good thing about digital is that it allows you to make mistakes without the cost of film.
Quick tips
I'm by no means pro-level at it..but my photos are much better now than when I started.
I shoot jets mostly with Canon's Program mode. Center focus, the lowest ISO that works with the light available.
Props I shoot in shutter priority mode. pan well and keep my shutter speeds below 1/250 for prop blur....depending on the engine and rpm ( take off or landing) etc.
