  • U.S. registration data question

Does anybody know what the earliest date is of the U.S. registration data in the database? I have several old photos of planes from the sixties and seventies that have no longer valid registrations and don't appear here, so I was wondering what the start date of the data in the database is.

Ken, I'm sure you can answer this if you are monitoring.

Hi Chris,

To be honest, I don't know either.

FAA has a de-registered aircraft database, which is imported into our site regularly, but I think it's far from complete. I don't think it has a specific start date.

Ken

Ken,

So you're just using the current FAA database plus the deregistered one. I thought maybe you had obtained an earlier version of the registry that you were combining with the current one.

I don't know how long they keep aircraft in the dereg database.

Chris

Ken,

I just took a look at the FAA deregistered database and there are cancellation dates going back to the 1930's in there, but on the other hand, there are known registrations that I have from the 1960's that are not in there. They must have some criteria for dropping registrations from that database.

That would explain why some of the old ones don't show up in your database.

Chris

Hi Chris,

You are right. Though our members have contribute lots of aircraft registry data, which does not exist in FAA database.
