N78006
Just want to add my 2 cents. I was a previous owner of Swift N78006 however the current aircraft with that tail and S/N is NOT the same one. The origiinal 78006 was destroyed in an accident October 28, 1991. Check the NTSB report for details. I guess the only part that survived was the S/N plate. I bought the original N78006 from a fellow in N.J. and picked it up in October 1987. It had been re-skinned, sticks installed, gull wing doors, 160 hp Lycoming with Hartzell CS prop among many other improvements. Bright Red with Black trin (like the mystery ship). One improvement that stands out above all others is the re-location of the gear and flap controls. The Gear lever actually looked like a landing gear lever should and was located on the left side of the panel. The Flap lever looked like a flap and was located along side of the throttle/propeller/ mixture quadrant. I sold this plane in December 1990 and about a year therafter iit was destroyed resulting in a very serious injury to the pilot/owner. I believe Jack Nagel acquired the wreckage and created the present aircraft out of parts of that and another aircraft. Jack sure did a beautiful job. I saw it at Sun-N-Fun once and also it was featured in Sport Aviation.
