No I didn't remove it on purpose.
The way we track aircraft on this site is based on airframe/tail number combo. So if the airframe (manufacturer, model, c/n etc) AND tail number do not change, it's considered same aircraft, maybe different livery. For military aircraft, I guess it depends on if an upgrade result a new model or not.
The old site has a comment function I missed during rewrite. I'll add it back soon, maybe we can use comments as a method to track trival changes like unit shift, base change etc.
