Sunday Dec. 13, I was onboard flight 630 from Phoneix Mesa to CID. After 2 missed approaches, The first I don't believe we were ever on final, the second, we were so high above the glideslope that we were halfway down the runway and well above it yet. The crew announced we were going to the alternate DSM. As we approached Des Moines, I recognized a WSW heading and being very low, I thought we were going straight in on 23. As we neared the airport the plane turned on a right down wind for 31, we turned base and I, seated towards the rear of the plane, was looking right down 31. I was really wondering what was going on. There aren't parrallel runways at DSM. We turned final for 31, the runway way to the rignt of the plane. we were low and slow, the pilot put that MD88 in a steep bank that looked as we would fall out of the sky. I suspect the tower took over at that point. Missed approach again. This time we were flown away from the city and brought back around over an unpopulated area, brought back in and landed on 31. I would like to know what went on. Allegiant won't reply and the tower won't talk. Any suggestions on how to find out.:(
