Good day.

some aircraft are the same but not "link this aircraft to another registry number"

How to link these with each other.

F-5 c/n L.1001 J-3001 -> 761526

/aircraft/j-3001.html -> /aircraft/761526.html

F-5 c/n L.1003 J-3003 -> 761528

/aircraft/j-3003.html -> /aircraft/761528.html

F-5 c/n L.1023 J-3023 -> 761548

/aircraft/j-3023.html -> /aircraft/761548.html

One profile says F-5E, and another says F-5N. Which is correct?

Ken

Ken

They are both correct...

I guess the real issue is; do you integrate the listings into one or keep them separate? or link them in some other way!

Aircraft when built and supplied to the Swiss, were mfg'd as F-5E Tiger II's.

When returned to the US military and supplied to US Navy aggressor squadrons,

they were upgraded modified to F-5N standards.

Some examples:

76-1531 (c/n L.1006) J-3006 to US Navy marked as 761531

76-1532 (c/n L.1007) J-3007 to US Navy as 761532

76-1534 (c/n L.1009) J-3009 to US Navy as 761534

76-1535 (c/n L.1010) J-3010 to US Navy as 761535

John

Ken,

From what I understand about F-5's they are both correct....

They were originally produced/listed under a US Air Force serial number and then sold to the Swiss as F-5E's...

The Swiss gave them their own number....

They were retired from Swiss service and brought back to the US and modernized to the F-5N (Navy) standard for use in the US Navy aggressor/adversary role.

USAF Serial Number - 76-1526 (c/n L.1001) J-3001 to US Navy as 761526

76-1528 (c/n L.1003) J-3003 to US Navy as 761528

76-1548 (c/n L.1023) J-3023 to US Navy as 761548

Confusing enough?

So from what I understand, we should have the profiles arranged like this (Using 76-1526/J-3001/761526 as example):

76-1526 and J-3001 share same airframe (F-5E), and linked to each other.

761526 (Navy) have a different model (F-5N), thus considered a different airframe, and is NOT linked to anyone.

Reasonable?

Ken

I really would not consider them different frames, because the msn are still the same.... Just reworked and re-designated types (with new contract serials).

It's a little different than the CH-47 that were rebuilt as MH-47E, where Boeing did issue new frame numbers for the same frame. (and of course new Army contract serials).

example: CH-47C msn B.684 71-20950 re-mfg as a MH-47E with a new msn M-3718 as 00-2160 <<<<< In this case we could list it as a "new" frame

Just some thoughts!?

John

In current system, one airframe can only have one manufacturer and one model. How can we deal with F-5E and F-5N issue here?

Ken

Good day.

Do not know if this is possible, but maybe like this to fill in.

Fill in the original type

example

aircraft info:

model: F-5E Tiger II

status

model converted to: F-5N

Oh wow John beat me to the original answer by a few minutes..funny I never saw that... :)

I wonder if they could be listed under their different numbers if there is a photograph to go with them.

Such as this P-51, same airframe but photographed at different times with different registrations...

Good day.

See that for example serial 761548 is made now a second profile first is F-5N 761548 end second one is 761548 F-5E linked towards J-3023 (ex Swiss AF). Is this correct that the database is working for serials and not for the aircraft frames (construction numbers).
