My computer internet speeds are very low; 530 Kbps download and 230 Kbps upload. The Workshop feature I saw as having some appeal as I can leave the computer to upload a batch of images and do other things in the meantime, and subsequently fill in the details which is a fairly quick activity. Uploading images individually is a painfully long process!

Unfortunately on the two occasions I have used Workshop, a number of rejects has resulted, the second time 11 rejects from a batch of 47 images. I am unable to find any commonality between the rejects.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm,

the same with me. I also have a "low" speed connection via Cell-phone/ Web-Stick. I do have about 10 corrupted files within the "Workshop - Manage Photos" aera. But I thing it´s because the way how I name my file, as I use the "+" character, for example "RLG_30+27_EF2000GT_2010-06-14_EOS7D_IMG_6311.jpg". That might cause the corrupt files. It is also not possible to delete these files.

Hello Fritz.

The files in question are shown as errors at the time of upload to Workshop and don't appear in the "Workshop - Manage Photos" section.

I have further attempted to upload the rejects as a batch to "Workshop" and all were rejected as errors.

I have also uploaded one of the rejects through the usual procedure and it uploaded successfully.

A normal image file name format for me would be ......

Canadair_Regional_Jet_700_D-ACPH_New_Aug_26_10-2b.jpg

..... namely, what, where, when with a final image type suffix.

Aarrrrhhh!!!

I think some of the errors in workshop can be attributed to; what syntax, you use for aircraft markings, and filenames.

This type of database has some issues with characters such as + and . when used in names for indexes and photos.

It's just the nature of the "software beast" and, needs work-arounds when uploading indivdualy or in batch.

I found one of my older posts (regarding searches) that may help in some little way when dealing with batch uploads in workshop.

copy of post below;

It appears the system doesn't like some ascii characters in the tail number string. (e.g. "." and "+")

When adding German serials use the "space" instead of "+"

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/98%2033.html

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/50%2098.html

When adding Spanish serials, do not use the "."

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/C14-06.html

It seems to work this way.

Also when searching for certain serials, you need at least 3 charachters;

searching for 50+98 you can enter 50 "space" 98

searching for all luftwaffe serials in the 50+ range you enter 50 and "space"

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply.

I fell into those 'elephant traps' early on and it is a timely reminder to uploaders, but I am left with the odd situation that for the same image, one method succeeds and the other fails. All the images have the same title format, all have file sizes that I typically use, 350Kb to 650Kb, some have versions I have previously uploaded and some are new.

I'm at a loss to understand.

Malcolm.

Something strange that I've noticed, not necessarily on this site,

but on other sites and/or with some software, is the use of CAPS when naming files, especially the 3 letter extension.

example:

aircraft1234.jpg and aircraft1234.JPG

Both same file, but some issues arise uploading or even working with the file

using CAPS in the extension (.JPG).

I not noticed any issues here when uploading individual files (have not use workshop yet) but on other websites, its definitely an issue.

John

Malcolm & FBE,

Can you email me one of your failed photos so I can have a test? Please send it to info at airport-data.com.

Thanks,

Ken

Hi all,

I have a photo in the workshop, called 0.jpg

It is not possible to tag this photo, it stays everytime in the workshop. It is also not possible to delete the photo out of the workshop. Can you please delete the photo 0.jpg out of my workshop?

Thank you in advance and best regards from Vienna ;)

Roman

Image deleted. I will check the workshop program later to see if there's any bug.
