I know it's frowned upon to upload duplicate type pictures of the same aircraft so I have to ask .... If I delete one of my pics and upload another ( of the same aircraft ) in it's place because it's much better will both show when doing a search or is it removed from the site entirely leaving only one? I ask this question because over time I have been able to find better access at my local airport which gets me much closer to the action so to speak.

btw... I really enjoy this site and appreciate all the effort that's gone into it. Keep up the good work.

When you delete the old picture (out of two, for example), it's gone forever. If you do a search at this time, you will only see one picture. Then after you upload another one, both old and new will show up.

Are the pictures you are deleting of the same aircraft are they the ones you took or of one you took and one that someone else took at a different airport? I've posted many a picture where the almost identical shot was taken, except at a different airport. It adds depth to the aircraft showing that it's been other places and spotted by many.

It's different if you take 10 pictures of the same aircraft and you only moved the view of it by 2 feet. I usually will post a front, side, rear and airborne view of the aircraft, and leave it at that. I don't try to "pad" my numbers by posting the same view over and over again.

Thanks for the reply. I understand how it works now. I just didn't want to post more then what I thought would be necessary.

First off I will only post pics that I myself have taken. Secondly, they would be of the same aircraft at the same airport and like you, don't want to pad my numbers or take up unnecessary space. The reason I asked the question is because I have been able to find a different vantage point at the airport that will allow me to get much closer to the helicopters that fly out of it. That means I can post a much better shot without having to crop the dickens out of it thus ending up with more clarity etc. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to leave both shots up they would look very similar except one would be much farther away. I'll post an example after I finish doing what I need to do. It will be clear as mud then.

I am in the process of updating and deleting some photos from the site, because I have found one picture is better than another.

The only thing I do that may be frowned upon is in the case of certain aircraft, I may upload "progressive" shots either of an arrival or departure, but that is typically warbirds or something unique.

Otherwise, that is the nice thing about being able to arrange my photo gallery and something Ken has designed so well in the database, then you upload what you want, put it in it's own folder, then the pictures that are new are the only ones that pop up under your name, and it stays fresh.

Hi John....

I gotta work on my folders... something I have neglected due to time. I need more hours in a day.

In any event here is an example of what I mean.

This is one of my shots I'm going to delete because of many reasons. The foremost is it has been cropped to the max as the chopper was so far away...............

And I'm going to replace it with this. It hasn't been cropped in any way. I think it's a bit better and more fitting for this site. I hope it doesn't take to long to load.

Excellent shot of the helo! That's a quality picture that everyone likes to look at! I try not to post any that I have shot from a distance, but once in a while if there is no other picture of it, I'll post it. Cropping does help a lot to make it look better and it gets rid of all the clutter in the background! I've also gone as far as to photo shop my pictures to remove items such as a Porta Pottie that is on the runway (closed runway that is) due to construction!

Thanks for the compliment Michael.

I think along the same lines as you but in todays day & age regarding security there are very few good vantage points left. There always seems to be some sort of high fence in the way to ruin a good shot. Most of the time it doesn't bother me as I prefer to get my shots of the aircraft flying because that's where they are meant to be but even that is becoming harder.

I have on occasion spent hours working on a pic in order to remove the crud. Just for the heck of it here is an example. I took this pic about 1975 or so @ the Abbotsford Airshow. I scanned it from a slide and it was a real mess. It's something we won't have a chance to see again and the many hours I spent fixing it up was worth the effort. I have a shoe box full of this stuff and not enough hours to deal with them.
