  • Adding " Unknowns " To My Gallery ???

I have a bunch of older photographs of military aircraft scanned from slides that I would like to add to my gallery but don't have a clue how as I'm not able to identify specific aircraft and / or they may be flight demonstration teams. Is there a way to upload them without using the Registration (Tail Number) box and if so how?

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

just put somthing where tail number goes like me i put WW2 plane for some of my aircraft stuff i dont have tail numbers for

If the aircraft has it's Air Force/Army Serial number or it's Navy Bureau number visible, the first place to for ID help is Joseph F. Baugher website.

http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/

Also, if you don't mind being pestered, there are a few users around here that can help. We'll send you an email if are able to ID it.

Thanks Tim... I appreciate all the help I can get. I have bookmarked the site and will use it as the opportunity presents itself. As it is geared towards US military stuff I wonder if there might be a Canadian equivalent somewhere. I haven't been able to find one and being Canadian it would help.

Guy,

This site is run out of Canada and has worldwide membership-there are many foreign military aircraft and warbirds shown on the site. If you cannot see a tail number on your photo you could use NONE and you will accumulate a group of your own NONEs. As they are ID'd for you-you can regroup them by type or Manufacturer or in whatever way makes sense to you. Many people use the site for research, so it is best to accommodate them with a uniform scheme that you establish. The edit function allows you to make changes to captions at any time.

Hi Doug....

I have most of that figured out but was pleasently surprised to hear the site is actually Canadian... not that it really makes a difference. It's just kind of neat.

What I really meant though was " it would be nice if there was a site I could use to ID Canadian military aircraft " along the same lines as J. Baughers site. http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/ I just have to spend some time there and learn how to properly ID the tail numbers.

Guy,

There is a site that has requirements for and nomenclature of Canadian Forces military aircraft, including identification by serial number. Short access is: try Googling NDHQ/DAS ENG

ENG maintains the aircraft ID serialization and refers to a "Read Only" list. Might try requesting that from them.

Long URL is;

http://www.admfincs.forces.gc.ca/admfincs/subjects/cfao/036-37_e.asp

Both seem to get the same Document.

Hi Guy,

Here's a great site by R. W. R. Walker, which has detailed information on Canadian military aircraft numbering and designation.

http://www.odynet.ca/~bwalker/index.htm

For detailed registry numbers listed by aircraft designations, check this page (on same site): http://www.odynet.ca/~bwalker/post_int.html

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much.

I have a bunch of stuff that is "unknown" also on here. I usually just type in "UNKNOWN" in the tail number spot.

For example - I have a lot of stuff I have taken years ago with a film camera where the tail number is not visible, or in some cases military planes (especially U.S. Navy fighter planes where the BuNo is quite small and if the plane is flying it is impossible to see). I also have some unknowns where I end up getting belly shots of aircraft, or enough that I can't see the N number I might have to put unknown too.
