N5410V 44-74996 was destroyed in a crash. The paper work survived! Race four AKA Dago Red was assembled of parts gathered from seven countries and fifteen states. A Mustang was not "cut-up". The left wing was fabricated from scratch by Art Teeters (really nice work). The canopy frame, turtle deck and supporting structure was fabricated by Tom Emery. The scoop and dog house assembly was fabricated by ??? Snodgrass. The wing tips were built by Justin "Supe" Hoisington. The radiator was assembled by Dennis Shoenfelter. The canopy plex was blown by Dick Evans. The fuel, alcohol and water cells were built by ??????????. The tail cone was rebuilt by Planes of Fame AKA the Air Museum. The 403 squadron fuselage was not much more than the four main side skins and the longirons. Fuselage reskin and repair was done by Bill Jones and Ken Robertson. The landing gear legs were a pair modified by "Supe" for Race 69 in the seventys. The engines were assembled by Vintage V-12's. The engine components came from Canada, England, Australia and the USA. Some of the people involved in the assembly Ricky McCoy, Wes Shoemaker, Robbie Patterson, Gordon Beeson, Supe Hoisington, Nan Rider, Robert Rowe, Dave Mandella, Roger Winterrath, Bruno Sen, Rick Sepe, Rick Otto, Ken Robertson, Mike Nixon and Frank Taylor. There were others. Francis "Nat" Quick was the artist. Tony Corbo applied the paint under Nats direction. The test flying was done by Jim Maloney and Steve Hinton. There is a lot more to the story.
