A-4 Skyhawk.

Profiles in the database are randomly described as either Douglas or McDonnell Douglas.

The model was produced over the period 1956 to 1979. Douglas became McDonnell Douglas in 1967.

Almost all profiles in the database do not have the respective date of manufacture and I am unable to locate a source for these.

Would anyone care to suggest a preferred option please?

Texan II

A similar situation prevails.

Raytheon became Hawker Beechcraft in 2007. The Texan II started production from 2000 until today.

Again random descriptions in the database.

Raytheon

Raytheon Beech

Hawker Beechcraft

Beechcraft

Any advice would be very welcome.

Malcolm.

I suggest looking at Joe Baugher's site and use whatever he uses for the particular BuNo or, in the case of the T-6 BuNo or S/N. He usually shows the manufacturer at the time the aircraft was built. That's how I do mine.

Glenn

I have used Raytheon-Beech for all of my T-6A, T-1A and UC-12 entries.

Joe Baugher uses Raytheon-Beech, Beech-Raytheon, Raytheon for T-6A's and Beechcraft, Raytheon-Beech and Beech Raytheon for the T-1A's

He also uses Raytheon-Beech for C-12 and variants...

What to do?

I would list A-4 under Doulgas (the OEM) in honor of its designer Ed Heinemann.

:) John

Or even Douglas :

Sorry John, couldn't resist!

That's my instinct too.

I'll give it bit longer to see if anyone else has a preference/opinion.

Malcolm.

Oops, ....

Apologies to Donald W.

Many thanks for the responses.

Joe Baugher's site is one I frequently access Glenn, unquestionably the bast for US military.

I have already branded Skyhawk as Douglas. I can see no sense in the random use of McDonnell Douglas but am happy to revise if further information surfaces in the future.

Out of interest I reviewed Joe Baugher's entries for the Texan II but it hasn't proved helpful.

1995 - Beech Raytheon

1996 & 7 - Raytheon

1998 - Beech Raytheon

1999- Raytheon Beech

2000 - Raytheon

2001 & 2 - Raytheon Beech

2003 to 10 Raytheon

It almost seems as though the complexity eventually became too much for Joe and he finally plumped for calling them all Raytheon!

Bearing in mind as pointed out that other models are similarly affected, could we find a consensus view, particularly from our US friends as to how I should proceed. As with the A-4, it makes little sense to leave the entries as they are.

Malcolm.

Well...ambiguity reigns.

Raytheon called it the "Beechcraft T-6" on this 2006 web release..

http://www.raytheon.com/newsroom/feature/fas06/messages/

The USAF says "built by Raytheon"

http://www.af.mil/information/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=124

and the USN says the same for the new T-6B...

http://www.navy.mil/navydata/policy/seapower/spne07/chap3-07_sea_strike.pdf

so I guess I would vote for just plain Raytheon if that is what the services are using...

Interesting links - found myself reading well outside the subject in question, many thanks.

I think you are right; without more information from sources not yet found, the obvious solution is a neutral choice and Raytheon fits the bill.

I will go ahead and make the change with the assurance that further revisions can be made in the future.

Malcolm.
