I have several shots of this airship. Original shots were as "McBlimp" advertising McDonalds, and then it became Met Life, eventually being destroyed in June 1989.

I would like to make a profile for this aircraft so all the photos can be together, but I have no idea as to manufacturer or type ID, let alone a c/n or other information. If anyone has information to make a profile for this aircraft, I'd appreciate it.

Glenn

Hi Glenn

All I can find is D-LDFM Luftschiff WDL-1 c/n 100, there is an image on A.net taken in 1974.

Not sure if it is the same Blimp as the German's tend to use the same reg. number several times.

cheers

Chris

That could be a problem. I'd like to see other photos taken closer in time to mine if I'm going to use the info.

Glenn

I got a shot of it (35mm slide) from October 1987, in MetLIFE livery with Snoopy (sliver/wht/blue). Got it ID'd as WDL-1A c/n 100, reg to Airship International Ltd.

OEM is/was West Deutsche Luftwerbung (WDL)

Check this link, it may help pin down the c/n

John,

Looks like Chris had a good lead. That link you gave me gave the entire history of the aircraft, showing the years it operated as McDonalds and Met Life. It was still Met Life when it was destroyed. We now have a profile!
