  • Problem Editing Own Forum Post

Rats! I logged in and just spent an hour and a half editing my 2011 California Airshow Events with over 20 new detailed entries. When I went to preview the edited post it came up a blank with message only a poster could edit own posts. What went wrong? A lot of time wasted! I have spent a lot of time before preparing detailed Forum entries with no problems. Rats!

Yep, thats happened to me many times on different boards. Chalk it up to Gremlins :

For long or detailed posts, I use a text editor (notepad or PS-pad), tweak it, save it, then copy & paste into forum post.

It keeps the frustration level low!

John

Doug,

Really sorry to hear that.

Not sure what happened. My guess is that it could be caused by the log in session. When you logged in, did you choose "Log me on automatically each visit"? After that happened, did you have to re-log in again? Because it took you a long time to edit the post, you might be logged off because of inactivity. Just a guess. The forum software is a open-sourced system, I never digged deep enough.

Ken

Ken,

I usually (and did) log into Member Section from the A-D Home Page, then scroll down to check Forum at the page bottom and then select a topic, then the specific entry to edit. Many of my Events entries are necessarily long and consume time to enter, then Preview. This failure episode was a first for me.

I can't really import from Notepad, etc because I sequence new events by dates between already entered dates, and I initially tail a new one onto a just prior date entry to pick up the bolding and color, which I use on all my entries for better legibility with my old eyes, even though I still correct to 20/20, (old eyes need more light). When editing an Event after a period of being shown, I then do a new Reply to the edited Event with the Dates, Cities only; otherwise no one knows of the new added material.

As to the Forum log-in question, the few times I have done that, I always check "Log me in automatically each visit" and have never found that to work or of value-despite checking it. It does NOT require me to relog in again after doing that, to answer your question.

The fact John has experienced my problem several times suggests a bug. Again, this was a first for me. Thank you both for your answers.

Just a work around. You may preview/save the post one entry at a time. Then edit it again for 2nd entry. This will reduce the risk of losing all your work.

Ken

Yes, Thank you Ken

That is my intent from now on in editing Events topics. It will be some time before I can get back to it with workload priority issues.
