I noticed on some pictures it shows the data from the camera on the right. Is that something special, something I do or something done by the powers that be.

I see some have it and others don't.

It's automatic. If the data is in the image file, then it is displayed. Otherwise it isn't.

KenJr,

Greetings.

Digital pictures often have something called "Exchangeable image file format" attached to the file. It records information about the camera, or device that took the image.

It also records the time, if the flash was used... ISO speed...and other settings.

The attached link has more information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exif

In some cases, photos that have been scanned from a print, may or may not have any Exif data attached.

I have also found that if you alter photos with some programs, the Exif data may be removed.

In most Digital cameras made today, Exif data is recorded and saved with the photo.

Best Regards,

Bluedharma

They are all digital, taken with my Canon Rebel. Only thing done was resize the photos because all were shot in high res. A few were touched up to get the trash from the lens off the photo.

I suppose the resize takes the info out then :(

It may take the info out... I have noticed that it depends on the program used.

When using Picasa, the data is left in. But when i resize with paint-shop-pro, the info is stripped out.

Photoshop often puts it's own tags in there, when you adjust the image.

(funny thing with programs...Thats how they can tell some of these "UFO","Bigfoot" pictures are fake... when the Exif data says photoshop. :) )

Live the good life!

Thanks for the reply. I use Photoshop to resize and I am not into "Bigfoot" and UFO's :)

I just like good quality aviation photos and until I get the freaking inside of my camera clean I have to touch a few up here and there so as not to look like a total dweeb.

I was at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in Columbus, OH last weekend and took 800-900 photos from the event. Something was screwy with the auto focus and some of the others had the same problem. So out of that I ended up saving just over 450 pictures.

Here is a link to what I saved if anyone is interested http://www.kesha.us/gml07

As you can see from some of these photos, I really need to get this thing cleaned. Now if I can figure out what went wrong witht he autofocus!

Bluedharma beat me on the questions. 8-)

The program will extract EXIF data from the photo if there's any, but ONLY in member section. This function has not been ported to other part of site yet, such as Quick Upload page for non-members. Guess I am too lazy.

Sometime the extract data is not correct, mainly because not all camera manufacturers adhere to the standard well, they often change here and there, and throw in some their own. Currently the function only support Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Kodak, Sony, some Ricon, Sanyo and Epson.

Yes, On my HP pocket camera the shutter speeds are never right-expressed in 100,000th of a second in the EXIF presentation. If I edit a photo with the HP software, most if not all of of the EXIF line items are filled out. What they mean I know not, but if flash is used that is indicated. Date and exact time of photo are correct, however.
