  • Qantas CEO grounds fleet worldwide immediately

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has announced that all Qantas flights, domestic and international, have been grounded immediately due to ongoing strike action by three unions covering pilots, baggage handlers/catering, and maintenance engineers. Aircraft taxying for departure have been ordered to return to the terminal gate, and flights currently in the air will terminate at the end of their current sector.

Australia's industrial commission, Fair Work Australia, have ordered termination of all industrial action. Parties have 21 days to negotiate a settlement, otherwise FWA will arbitrate a settlement which will be binding on all parties. Qantas is back in the air.
