PHASTAR has announced plans to open the Davis Aerospace & Maritime Academy (DAMA) in the Fall of 2014 at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. The school would locate on the airport grounds, in the General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Aviation High School building, if sufficient funds are raised.
"The Davis Aerospace & Maritime Academy will provide area students with a real world education, exploring life, the world, and beyond. Students will prepare for the next step in their education and are offered a direct pathway to high paying 21st century careers right here in Ohio. We believe the timing is ideal, given the substantial public-private interests and resources available for human capital and building investments. Efforts to provide better local opportunities for our younger generation, green building practices and greater lakefront access for the public all point to the success of this vision."
On March 8th, 2013, there will be a fundraiser featuring the off-Broadway play, "Black Angels Over Tuskegee" in Cleveland, at University School's Conway Hall.
There will also be a silent auction. Items on auction include: A Tour of Cleveland in Bell 206 BIII JetRanger, flying lesson in a J-3 Cub, introductory helicopter lesson in Hughes 269C+ Helicopter, introductory airplane flying lesson, ride in a WWII era SNJ (Navy version of T-6 Texan) as well as a few more aviation and non-aviation items.
