  • World's Only Flying Boeing B-29 Southwest US Tour

"FIFI", the Commemorative Air Force's Boeing B-29 Superfortress will make a southwest US 2013 tour, on display at Camarillo, CA airport CMA Monday, 18 March and have tours between 2 pm and 6 pm at the CAF SoCal Wing Hangar. Tours will also be offered on Tuesday, 19 March and Wednesday, 20 March at the CAF the same hours. Rides will also be sold.

"FIFI" will then fly to Burbank, CA Bob Hope Airport BUR for show that weekend. The plane will then fly to Las Vegas and then to Albuquerque for further display shows. Home airport is Addison Airport ADS, Texas, where she will then be for a couple of months.

Of 3,970 B-29 very heavy bombers that were built, "FIFI" is the World's only flying example. She was rescued from a Navy proving ground at China Lake, CA. and restored by a group of volunteers. She has been flying on tours for the last 40 years or so.

I have uploaded over 50 photos of N529B, the 1944 Boeing B-29 "FIFI" visit to CMA here; she arrived late on Monday 18 March 2013 at Camarillo CMA to a large, but patient crowd ranging from interesting old war veterans to swap tales with to small children with parents. I climbed inside "FIFI" (not easy to do) and the majority of my photos are interior shots and detail shots with descriptions, apparently the only interior shots as yet uploaded. Lighting was poor that day and the outdoor photos reflect that.

N529B is the WORLD'S ONLY FLYING B-29 SUPERFORTRESS and it was a great thrill seeing it finally arrive with a formation escort overhead of the local CAF Spitfire, Mustang, Bearcat, Hellcat and Mitsubishi Zero aircraft.

I have been slowed down lately after right hand surgery and also celebrated entering my ninth decade last 4 February, so I don't know how many more years of airshows I may be attending, but it has been a splendid ride!

Please have a look at all the N529B photos; the later weather was better in Las Vegas and the newest welcome photos of "FIFI" here reflect that.
