Hello I hope this post is in the correct place. It is a bit of a strange question but I am after any information about a Tornado that crashed into the North sea in 1985..Tornado GR1 ZA610. I think I have read most of what is on the net. However what is not in any reports is that the pilot was never found, the Navigator was found dead. A second body was found with an ejector seat. But the second body was not that of the pilot? The Tornado was located 16 miles off Flambrough head.

Regards Paul

All versions of the Panavia Tornado are two place aircraft. One type is the IDS for strike/ground attack and the ECR is a electronic combat reconnaissance aircraft. The GR.1 is the UK version of this aircraft, having a pilot and weapons system operator/navigator in tandem seating. There are/were GR.1s, GR.1As, converted GR.1Bs and GR.4 upgrades from GR.1s.

The other version of the Panavia Tornado ADV air defense variant is an air defense fighter/interceptor, having a pilot and radar operator in tandem seating. The UK operated the interim F.2 and then the F.3 standard ADV. There was also a UK F.2G upgrade.

Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy the Netherlands and the UK studied in the late 1960s a need for a strike aircraft . Belgium, Canada and the Netherlands subsequently withdrew. Panavia was formed in 1969 to develop the Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) with formal development in 1970 of the Panavia Tornado.
