This twin engine pressurized aircraft hangared at SZP crashed about 4 miles southeast of Santa Paula Airport with one fatality on Saturday, 1 August 2015. The crash site near Loftus Canyon Road and Morgan Canyon Road was in a leased oil field on the side of a wooded hill. The pilot was a long-time personal friend who also owned and hangared a Piper Super Cub at SZP. He had been flying since age 16, and we were contemporaries in year and month of birth.
The wreckage of N4CU was spotted by a passerby and reported about 2 pm Saturday, 1 August 2015. On Sunday morning 2 August I spoke with an SZP-based aircraft owner pilot friend who witnessed the takeoff of N4CU the day before. He estimated conditions were 1/2 mile visibility in low clouds and fog.
There are nine prior photos of the aircraft on this site. R.I.P., Jim.
