N57845

I am curious about this aircraft, how it's doing etc as my Grandfather built it.

Go the the FAA Registry to see present aircraft owner information; then contact the owner directly.

Thank-you for such a timely response. I have this information, and can actually see it in Google maps, and am actually interested, since it is registered as Acrobatic, if there are any airshow(s) this aircraft has been spotted in. I've noticed on this forum that every photo of a Stearman here has a manufacture date of 1943. My Grandfather's Boeing Stearman was manufactured in 1937. The tail number is NC57845.

Boeing Stearmans of various configurations, PTs, N2Ss were built from 1940-1945. Earlier Stearman biplanes of similar/same design were built by Stearman before it was purchased by Boeing. The antecedents were the Stearman 70 of 1933 and the Stearman X75 evolving from the experimental 70. I have a number of different year Boeing Stearman biplane trainers with 220 Continental radial photographs here. Boeing built 10,326 for the US and allied forces-a record biplane build since the 1918 any biplane totals.

Interestingly Joe Baugher has a 1937 USAAC listing for Stearman PT-13A 37-77 (37-0077?) with the cn 750033 (75-033?).

It is listed as w/o in April 23rd 1942 at Souzsa Aux Field, CA.

Assuming that w/o does not mean destroyed (decommissioned?), is this aircraft N57845?

iCoffeeCat. Would be good to add your photo to this web site.

This is indeed the same aircraft. When I was a boy I would go to "work" with him at his business, Baker Aircraft Service, at Vandenburg Airport in Lakeland Florida, where he had it stored in parts in the rafters of his hangar. Later, after he had retired, he rebuilt it and got it's airworthiness certificate in 1984. He kept it, flew it, maintained it, until he passed away at which time the family sold it. I would be honored, as well as his Daughter - my Mother - if you added this piece of aviation history to your website. I would like to have the URL link for it in order to refer to it and for my Mother as well, she's almost 80 herself and would bring a lot of joy to her. Thank-you for responding and please keep in touch.

Also, if you don't mind, I would like to be able to put together a complete (as possible) timeline for the history of this one aircraft, I see that it was written off in Sousza but nothing as to why, who owned it at the time ( I'm guessing it was military) and where it was from then until my Grandfather bought it ( in parts obviously, or maybe not) and so on. Again, thank-you for your time and expertise in aviation history.

Andrew, Please consider uploading the fine historic photo in our Member Section and also writing an Article about the airplane here with or without the fine photo as lead in to the article. Clicking on an uploaded article photo by the reader would then lead back to the Aircraft Profile page.

Your commentary under the photo could explain who actually took took the photo and your permission to use it, if you did not take it. I have uploaded others' aircraft photos with their permission and given attribution in illustrating several of my some 50 articles here.

Any Forum Members can utilize the entire site for uploading their aircraft or airport photos or written articles about aviation. Consider doing that.

Yes sir, Mr. Robertson ..

I am in the process of putting together such an article and will indeed use the permission you've given me to post on your website. And as well as my Mother's permission as she took the picture at Vandenburg Airport, Lakeland Florida 1984. We will be in touch.

Andrew,

CORRECTION-Please. This is not MY website-i was just the 84th person to join somewhat after it begun, in the same year. Ken Wang is the site Founder/Owner.

And, it would appear that you could add the photo to the website-being taken within your family. Site Admin might want to confirm here.
