For the second time in three days, Camarillo, CA airport CMA experienced another aircraft crash. This time, the occupants emerged unscathed. N750PJ, a 2007 Lancair with a modified turbine engine installation is registered Experimental class. Shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, 2 September, 2008. the aircraft experienced a mechanical problem and attempted to land on runway 08 opposite normal runway traffic. Runway 08/26 is 6,013 feet long by 150 feet wide. The aircraft overran the east end of the runway, which has a displaced threshold. The nose wheel was sheared off in the soft dirt and N750PJ flipped upside down just before 5 pm. The two occupants refused medical attention from an ambulance which had been called, but turned back before it arrived at the scene, as they did not require medical attention.
The autopsy of the pilot of N7482D, a 1957 Piper PA-18-150 Super Cub which crashed Sunday 31 August 2008 at CMA in a banner tow accident revealed death from multiple blunt force injuries. The FAA is investigating both crashes.
