  • Lone Star Flight Museum Damage - Hurricane Ike

A couple of pictures of the damage at the Lone Star Flight Museum on Galveston Island have surfaced ( Thanks to the Galveston Railroad Museum and WIX for the updates.)

All personnel are safe, and the building is still standing.

Apparently the walls were breached by the surge, the water was at least five feet deep inside....there is even a boat in the hanger...

I guess it could be worse...

Here is a link to a current aerial shot of Scholes Field .... not good.

Wow!!!!!

I am glad no one was hurt. It does look bad...

The museum has posted more photos on their website....the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame is a complete loss, some artifacts may be recoverable...too soon to tell.

The critical thing is the aircraft that were not able to fly out were submerged in at least 5 feet of bad water. They need to be washed and scrubbed ASAP before the salt and aluminum form a conspiracy and there is very limited access and no power or water at the airport....the island is in bad shape from many angles...

6 days later

Hope the B17 wasn't damaged.

Prior to IKE’s arrival pilots were able to fly the following aircraft out of harm’s way... B-17, B-25, DC-3,P-47, F6F, F4U, SBD, PT-17, T-6 and the F8F.

All those are safe and sound..Some even showed up at the CAF show last weekend.
