I was wondering if it were possible to have a master download of all the photos one person has posted. I know there is data in Excel form but is it possible with the actual content.

Just thinking out loud here...but I'm guessing it would take quite a hit on the server to collate and D/L all of that...

I have all of the photos both print and digital stored at home...but what if there were some catastrophic event at home and it was all lost...would what I uploaded here be available in one shot?

What happens if this site goes away? Ken sees a black cat or something and it's gone? is retrieval possible?

Yikes! I need to stop thinking... :

Well, that's a lot questions.

First of all, download your own photos in a batch is possible, but depend on size of your gallery, it could face a problem. Through web page, you can only download files one by one, or the server has to pack all stuff into a zip file (or RAR, or whatever other compress format). Download one by one is not a choice, compress everything could also be impossible (1000 photos could take as much as 1GB space, and JPG files is not well-compressible). Download all photos by category (folder) might be an acceptable workaround.

As for the catastrophic events, the server which hosts airport-data.com has a RAID 5 configuration, so lose one hard drive will not cause any data lose. I download all photos through internet and burn them into DVDs once in a while, as a backup, but it's behind schedule. Onsite backup has been in my consideration, but with so much data it will take some effect (both mental and financially) to do that.

Feedbacks are welcome, as usual.

Fortunately for users of Airport-data and fans of Rocky & Bullwinkle, some history for this website can be found at the WayBack Machine. The WayBack Machine is also known as the Internet Archive. Visit www.archive.org for more information. Unfortunately the wayback machine doesn't capture all of the images. I think it has thumbnails, but it doesn't have full images.

The Wayback Machine is named in reference to the famous Mr. Peabody's WABAC (pronounced way-back) machine from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show.

www.archive.org is a great site and wonderful tip, Timothy! What a time trip back-I dialed in December, 2005 to look at my aircraft and airport arrangement then and the original site layout before there was the Forum, and all of Ken's other improvements. Quite a maturation, I'd say, to what we have now.

a month later

Thats good to know. I lost a few of my photos from the past I posted on here and it is nice to know that this site is pretty secure.

5 days later

I see a new download option is available! Very cool!

Thanks Ken!
