How to format Coast Guard Registrations

I recently took this photo, but I am not sure how to format Coast Guard Registration in regard to prefixes, suffixes, etc.

6587 is written on the tail.

Accoriding to joebaugher.com:

6500/6608 Aerospatiale HH-65A Dolphin

6587 (c/n 6287) converted to HH-65B, then to HH-65C

Any help would be appreciated

Yep, the 4-digit code is the proper way (older models may have a 3-digit code, or a letter with the digits)
