Hi Gang,

I am trying to get together a list of aircraft fitted with ventral airstairs (see image). So far, I have

Boeing 727

Douglas DC9/MD-80

BAC 1-11

Sud SE 210 Caravelle

Yak 40

Martin 404

I would be pleased if anyone can add to this list.

Thanks,

Peter

Hello Peter

I think you can add the Martin 202, Convair 240 and the YAK42.

Best regards

Bob

Hello again Peter

One oddity was a Consolidated PBY-5A that became CF-MIR and was fitted with a ventral airstair when it was modified as a Model 28-5ACF Super Canso. It eventually arrived on the UK register as G-BLSC but unfortunately had an accident with fatalities and sank, I believe near Southampton. It was recovered and ended up in Weston in Ireland apparently to be preserved in a proposed museum. This did not materialise and the aircraft has been scrapped very recently on the instructions of the local council.

Bob

Thanks Bob.

Interestingly, many images of the CV240 I looked at had integral folding stairs in a forward door on the starboard side, instead of the normal port side. It would appear that the aircraft could be ordered with either ventral rear stairs, or the more conventional port rear door with ground based roll up stairways.

Regards,

Peter.
