Hi

Can you please add the following,

RAF Pembrey Sands Air Weapons Range, EGOP.

Cheers.

technically, this is not an airport, but Pembury Airport (EGFP) is in the database

http://www.airport-data.com/world-airports/EGFP/

Pembry Sands is used for landing and take off training.

Pembry Airport is a few miles to the south and more into land.

As ICAO issued a code to Pembry Sands (Pembry MOD) you might assume it is recognized as an official landing ground...

Pembury Sands and Pembury Airport (the former RAF Pembury) are/were both part of the Pembury Air Weapons Range. As Pembury Sands (located on the beach) is only used occasionally by the military for training I dont think there is any benifit in adding it to the database.

I thought members of the site would prefer to log photographed Military Aircraft against the Military Airfield as opposed to the Civilian Airfield as they are two completely different establishments as outlined below.

EGFP (Pembrey Airport) is a civil airport owned/operated by Winston Thomas.

EGOP is a RAF air weapons range owned by the MOD and known as Royal Air Force Pembrey Sands.

2 months later

The RAF range (EGOP) was set up in the mid-1960's after the adjacent Royal Ordance Factory built on Pembrey Burrows/in Pembrey Forest closed in 1964.

The range has a helipad close to the forest, targets are on the western part of Towyn Burrows and the landing strip for transport aircraft is a portion of Cefn Sidan Sands to the west of Pembrey Forest.

The range was not constructed on land occupied by the former RAF Pembrey airfield which closed in 1957 and is not part of Pembrey Airport (EGFP) which opened in August 1997 and uses only a small (north eastern) portion of the former RAF Pembrey airfield.

There is far more aviation activity on the range (57.72 lat. -4.37 long.) than at the airport and there are photographers who would upload thier excellent shots of aircraft on the range (sands, helipad and on run ins, etc) who will not submit them against EGFP. EGFP and EGOP are separate bases, would site admin please consider adding EGOP to this excellent website? Thank you.

PS. Other sites including Air-Britain have accepted EGOP as a base
